By Peter Kuol Kuch

Police authorities in Bor, Jonglei State, have detained an unspecified number of crew in ongoing gang crackdown in Bor town.

This month, the police in Jonglei State launched a two-month crackdown on gang activities in Bor-the crackdown activity is expected to be finalised next month.

Speaking to this publication, the Spokesperson of Police in Jonglei State, 1st Lt. James Akech, says the gang activity crackdown aims to transform the behaviour of crew members in Bor.

“The police forces are successful in cracking down on the gang group—the police normally patrol the town until 11 PM. The safety of the residents is in the hands of the police, and so far we have arrested a number of them,” he said.

“The concern is that some gang groups are disturbing the residents, and it is the police’s responsibility to safeguard the lives of the citizens and their properties,” he added

He emphasised that the detained gang members are undergoing extensive investigations.

“Following the procedures of investigations, they will be taken to court and the law will take its course, so that’s what’s happening.”

Mr. Akech appeals to unemployed youth in Bor to embark on being creative and pursuing innovative activities that are self-beneficial instead of engaging in criminal activities.

In recent months, there have been growing gang activities causing panic and fear among the residents in Bor—the crew members roam within the town with pangas and spears, endangering the lives of residents in Bor town.
