By Nakwam Rose

Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel held a private meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni before his safe return home.

The meeting took place after Dr. Bol Mel represented President Salva Kiir Mayardit at the Twelfth High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) in Entebbe, Uganda.

The Twelfth High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Region convened on Wednesday, bringing together influential delegates from various states worldwide.

These included representatives from the African Union Commission, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, the Southern African Development Community, the United Nations, and regional and international partners who participated as observers alongside representatives from the 13 signatory countries of the PSC Framework.

Before his departure, the Vice President engaged in a diplomatic meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to further analyze the bilateral relations between South Sudan and Uganda in strategic terms.

He also updated President Museveni on the ongoing measures being implemented to protect and ensure the intact implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan.

Accompanying Vice President Bol Mel were Monday Semaya Kumba and other members of the government delegation.

During the meeting, the delegates raised some of South Sudan’s critical concerns and aspirations, thereby representing the country at a more formal and professional level.

These engagements are expected to ultimately position South Sudan as a rising force in geopolitics and a prime destination for investment, which will open doors for opportunities that directly benefit its citizens.
